Kentucky Color - Image in the Mountain
2015-02-21 - Green Hills, Columbia, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester, Kentucky Division of Forestry. I had observed a resemblance to the massive and awe inspiring East face of the Matterhorn, so I snapped a half dozen pictures of my Snow Mountain to see if anything developed, so to speak. Later, as I downloaded the pictures from my camera, from out of the blue this image appeared. - BILLY JOE FUDGE

World largest icicle? Adair County's highest waterfalls?
2015-02-20 - On Harrods Fork Creek, District 3, Columbia, KY - Photo CM contributing photographer. We received this stunningly beautiful photograph with the word that it is "The World's Largest Icicle. It's a cascading waterfall on a cliff near Harrod's Fork. The location was not given, the prographer said, because they didn't want some blame fool to get killed trying to prematurely pull the "icicles" down, as most people always want to do. I know I have. - EW

Unforgettable Garnett Baker (1926-2015)
2015-02-20 - Four Hundred Quadrant, Public SQ, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener . Garnett Baker died Thursday afternoon in Glasgow, KY at 88 years of age. He was an Adair Countian who held great prominence in political and civic affairs of this community. He was an unforgettable, quotable favorite. This photo, taken almost four years ago at the dedication of the veterans memorial bypass, was captioned:
"World War II veteran Garnett Baker, a resident of Old Portland in District Five of Adair County, took his first school bus ride Monday morning, he said. He'd ridden buses before, he said, but the trip on an Adair County School District Bus from Adair Annex to the Adair Veterans Highway Dedication was his first time to ride a school bus. "We walked to school," he said, of his early days attending Maple Grove School. Baker will be 85 years young on June 18, 2011." Arrangements are incomplete at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home at this time.

Road, sidewalk clearance good but a bit spotty
2015-02-20 - Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo CM contributor photo. Main Roads, like the KY State Highway cleared Burkesville Street, KY 61 were in excellent condition this morning when this photo was taken. Accolades have been coming in for road crews during the storm. So far, there have been no complaints received at CM about any of the clearance work done by the State, Adair County, or the City of Columbia. Sidewalks seem to be another matter. Much of the work done clearing sidewalks was by adjacent land owners, as was done in front of Stotts Construction, above, with a cleared walkway, while beyond, a area linking the sidewalk to Sav-a-lot is covered in two feet of snow. Barry Stotts cleaned a stretch of Fortune Street the City Crew missed, meriting a Grover Award.

Track demonstrate overnight hunting
2015-02-20 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by CM staff. Where the snow blew back onto the porch overnight these tracks show that both cats and birds were hunting cat food. Birds have to really be hungry to get that close to cats food dishes. Cats have to really be full not to be hunting the birds but they still do enjoy the hunt.
