Steve Turner advocates for Technology Engineer for AC Schools
2015-02-24 - 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Technology Director Steve Turner advocated for a District Technology Engineer for the Adair County School District, and received unanimous approval for the new position. A salary schedule, also unanimously approved sets a minimum $30,000 per year salary schedule, with experience steps, and certification levels increases. Technology is quickly becoming a major necessity. Supt. Reed noted that the use of hand held devices has rapidly increased in the past few years, placing a new level of stress on the system. Mr. Turner cited problems in the Ag building, badly underserved - but not corrected - as one situation a District Technology Engineer would have quickly found. Presently, two technology technicians, Technology Technician Jason Rector and Technology Technician Assistant Trey Grider, work on a "Break & Fix" protocol. Something breaks, they fix it. The Technology Engineer would be a planning and prevention position, anticipating problems before the system breaks down. The position will be posted soon, with the District Technology Engineer, with the aim of having her or him in office by July 1, 2015. Photo taken at the Special Regular Board meeting, Mon 23 Feb 2015.

Adair School Board approves school bus garage plan
2015-02-24 - 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Gabe Jones, architect with Sherman-Barnhardt-Carter, Architects, present the schematic for the proposed Adair County School District Bus Garage. The drawing shows an option in the upper right hand corner for a new maintenance building, which would replace the present one at 350 Indian Drive, but the inclusion of that building at this time would exceed the District's present bonding capacity. "So," Supt. Alan Reed said," it is not likely at the time." Still he said, It will be part of the total plan forwarded to the Kentucky Department of Education Buildings and Grounds for approval. When the new Maintenance Building is constructed, the 350 building would be converted to house baseball after the present bus garage is torn down, Superintendent Reed said. The board voted unanimously to approve the Adair County Bus Garage. The photo was taken at the Mon 23 Feb 2015 Special Regular Meeting of the Adair County Board of Education.

Dean Robbie Harmon presents school calendar change options
2015-02-24 - 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The School Calendar and changes necessitated by snow days this winter - 9 including today - almost two full weeks of school, was addressed by Dean of Students Robbie Harmon, standing. The board adopted Mr. Harmon's Option 2, which leaves Spring Break as scheduled and projects June 2, 2015, as the last day for students, the following day as the last day for staff, switches Friday, March 20, 2015 from a Parent-Teacher Conference Day to a student attendance day, and reduces the number of instructional days from 172-170. State law mandates the school term close by June 30, 2015. Dean Harmon emphasized that the calendar will likely change if more weather related no school days are necessary. South Central Kentuckians usually face severe weather in tornado and spring flooding seasons. At right is School Board Member Mike Harris (Division 5).
