Darryl, most handsome dog in Adair Co., KY, at work
2015-04-02 - Sugarfoot Farm Rescue, 860 Sparksville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Peg Schaeffer. (1 Apr 2015) "I worked in the garden today," Peg Schaeffer writes, "And Darryl helped." The title, "Most Handsome Dog in Adair County," bestowed by the Darryl's human associates, has gotten widespread respect. Somehow, this Alpha Dog who wins hearts like a Sincere Politician - by dint of personality, has become very special. He may be known by name by far more people in the Adair County than any other dog, certainly more than many humans. When a few of the codgers think back to the Mayberry days in Columbia, KY, they remember that everybody knew dogs like they were their next door neighbors or favorite cousins. Not just the multitudes of Tippy's we had. But Corky. Bringer (soft G), Old Raymond, and Andy. If I were a dog, I'd think that was a Golden era, when like the song says, "Everybody knows your name." Those dogs are all gone. I hope others remember. I hope I didn't leave too many in the Dog Hall of Fame member out. - ED WAGGENER

A recurrent maintenance problem: Debris under KY 206 Bridge
2015-04-02 - Russell Creek Bridge, Fairground Street/Liberty Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Mitzi Bault. "It happens every time there are heavy rains: Debris piles up under the bridge over Russell Creek, requiring a lot of equipment and many hours of time to clean up. It would be informative if we learned the how much the annual cost is and how much it would cost to make changes at the site so that our hard hard earned tax dollars could be used elsewhere. Most of us have no idea what the solution is, but a solution is needed, here, too. Any ideas, anyone?" - MITZI BAULT
