Searching for Mt. Tussell - Don't think this is it
2015-04-07 - Mt. Tussell Road, District 6, Knifley, Ky - Photo by Ed Waggener. Searching for Mt. Tussell, Sunday, April 5, 2015, we spotted a likely suspect, a baby knob, but locals don't give it as a possibility. It's near the junction of Burnett (private) road and Mt. Tussell Road. The source of the name is likely in the source of the name of the Old Mt. Tussell School. Any information on it, or it's location, would be appreciated. The buck used to stop with Squire Wallace Feese, later with Squire Joe Rogers, and now with the highest local official, Squire Greg Caldwell. Maybe, when the mystery is solved, it will be so obvious everyone concerned - mostly me, it seems - will wonder why they had been so dumb in the first place. My best guess is that "Mt. Tussell" was a name imported from somewhere else, may by the incomers of the day. (Maybe "North Carolina people"? A play on Mt. Russell? Near the Mayberry community of Mt. Airy?) - EW

Trees along banks, with roots undermined by flood - II
2015-04-07 - Russell Creek off Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Sammy Kassem. Sammy Kassem sends this photo of Russell Creek after a wider, more shallow Russell Creek has undermined the root system of trees along the bank, weakening them until one day they will fall into the street. He says that in the days when gravel was randomly harvested from Russell and Sulphur Creeks, holes were deeper upstream, retaining more water longer. There will be more on the effects of logging and its effect on stream quality, soon. Tree laps, as Dr. Ben Arnold suggested, may be major contributors to steam and bridge problems.
