Pink-a-boo Redbud in Cedar copse - near Weed, KY

2015-04-13 - Edmonton Road near Weed-Keltner Road, Adair Co. District 4, Columbia, KY - Photo ColumbiaMagazine.com photo. Happy Days, Redbud Days are here again - Probably had a lot to do with why people were so friendly and ready to get things started again on Sunday, April 12, 2015. It's redbud time. They are everywhere, striving to have their time on stage before the scene stealing dogwoods hog the stage. This one, above, was having it's time on stage, albeit in a cameo role - with a wonder: How does it do that. - CM

Scenic Green Co., KY: Painted Lady (?) Butterfly and Dandelion

2015-04-13 - Russell Creek Road, Green Co., KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo.
Saturday April 11, 2015, was a zippety-do-dah day. Glorious, perfect weather with glo with glorious, stunningly beautiful stretches of dandelions. It was not the day of the most butterflies, but many were seen. Wendy Burt, a go-to identifier of all things nature was asked about the butterfly She wrote, "I'm not certain about the butterfly because of the angle of its wings . . . it looks as though it might be a Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui) sipping nectar from a dandelion with, yes, henbit in the background." Our thanks to Wendy Burt for sharing her knowledge. - EW
