Boots: Blue Star Dog of WWII

2015-04-18 - Bellview, Metcalfe County, KY - Photo Geniece Marcum collection.
Boots at his post, where he waited at the same time in the same place for Russell's return, even after Russell went off to war, even after the terrible news came that Russell would not be coming back. The vigils ended with the tragic news that Boots would not return, either. A double heart break for Momma, almost as if Russell had died all over again. - GENIECE MARCUM.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Quick breakfast, fortified by Sriracha

2015-04-18 - Columbia, KY - Photo ColumbiaMagazine.com photo.
This dish takes less than the allotted 19 minute max preparation, and clean up is extremely brief - maybe 5-6 minutes. It's got grilled chicken and shrimp, red bell peppers, asparagus, onion, and an egg. Prepared as master chef Robert Flowers would, only in a 6-inch cast iron skillet. Serves one or two. The Sriracha squeeze bottle was for a feeling of security only. It was needed, but it was comforting to know that if it were, it was there, ready. - EK
