Is it yours? Dog found shopping at Walmart wants family
2015-04-21 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Betsy Morgan. I found a male beagle mix dog at Columbia Walmart today - Monday, 20 Apr 2015 - he was actually inside the store and they were calling animal control to pick him up, so I brought him home with me. If he belongs to anyone, feel free to call me and I will happily return him to his family. 270-250-5421. Thanks - BETSY Morgan

Birds of Kentucky: Black vulture reigning on Jr. Loy Road
2015-04-21 - Jr. Loy Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
It's majestic in flight, and more prevalent now than the turkey vultures we all do appreciate. But it's increased presence has not been so welcome. Unlike turkey vultures, the black vultures don't always wait for their dinner for the wildlife coroner to pronounce the soon to be deceased, deceased. Still, scary as it is, it's an awesome creature, and there must be some reason for it, same as there is for a-tonal music and ignoramuses everybody but them has to endure - if one wants to get philosophical about it.

Larry Smith: Early map of Adair & surrounding counties
2015-04-21 - Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, FM 99.9 The Big Dawg, FM 92.7 the WAVE. "I'll bet none of y'all remember when you crossed the Adair County line to Pulaski or Barren Counties, or when what is now Campbellsville, KY was in "Greene" county. "I'll tell you how and when the "e" got lost from Greene County, but that's another story.) There are many other oddities of this old map none of y'all remember when - it was on ColumbiaMagazine.com once, how Adair County ceded some good western bear territory in 1865 because the Republicans wanted to get rid of the good Democrats who lived there. And that may be why, today, the Free State of Metcalfe is staunchly Democratic, and Adair County is Republican. Heaven only knows why they ceded the eastern territory to Russell County, but they did, and Adair County lost a good riverport on the Cumberland River. Comments are welcome, including an accurate dating of this map." - LARRY SMITH, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications.

Memories of Stephen Foster as Derby time nears
2015-04-21 - Bardstown, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, FM 99.9 The Big Dawg, FM 92.7 the WAVE. "With the Kentucky Derby coming up May 2, 2015, I thought a reminder would be appropriate of Stephen Foster's visit to Kentucky and the house which inspired the song we'll hear as the horses ride to the starting gate. He's best remembered for that visit in 1852, so much so that Kentuckians often forget that he was not born here, and did not live here, but made an immortal impact on the Commonwealth in a way others can only aspire to do." - LARRY SMITH, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications.
