Happy Violets and Healthy Dandelions
2015-04-11 - Columbia, KY - Photo CM photo. Well enough left alone is good enough for lots of folks. A decent crop of dandelions and violets. It's looking like the best year ever for the prettiest of flowers. The prettiest lawn in Adair County may be in the Rice Addition Curve on Greensburg Street. It's got a natural, heritage look. This past week there was a nearly solid carpet of violets and dandelions.

War Ration Books - WWII era - II - Front Cover
2015-04-11 - 705 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. I don't remember much about "my" War Ration Book. In fact, I just laid eyes on it for maybe the first time a week weeks ago. What I remember about rationing is when it was over. Some town folk of Mother's acquaintance urged her to go buy 100 lbs. of sugar at Mr. E. Campbell's Store when rationing ended. Mom told them she didn't think so. When they pressed for the reason, she said, "We don't need 100 pounds of sugar." Her theory, which would work in 'shortages' of today was, "Just do on a little less." It almost always works. The next time a short supply of gasoline is manufactured, the fuel companies would have gas running out their ears if everyone resolve to use 15% less. Is there anyone who couldn't do that? Paired Photo. See Also: War Ration Book - WWII era - I - Back Cover
