Flowers: New Fashioned Double Peonies

Mitzi Bault sent this photo of double peonies, the more popular version of the flower. They are nurtured by Mitzi & husband Ricky Bault at there home above Russell Creek and fronting Green Hills Road. The lane is named for her late father, L.G. "Peanut" McKinley. The flower is so hugely different from the single peony of Billy Joe Fudge/Helen Flatt single peony that the kinship of the two varieties wasn't apparent to many, even seasoned gardeners. Now the issue may be, which is preferred. Or do we just enjoy both. - Ed Waggener

Mystery Beauty Identified - Tulip Poplar

I found this lovely bloom on a tree full of them adjacient to a new paddock I opened up for grazing. Ever worried about my cows injesting something poisonous, I asked Nick Roy for help as I had no clue to its species. Come to find out It's a tulip poplar with no reputation for causing harm to cows . . . I'm often amazed by nature's beauty... and likewise thankful for Nick's willing mentorship. - GUY BABIN. Adair Fiscal Court meeting, 12 May 2015

The Adair Fiscal Court was sharply divided on the issue of County Fire Department dues being put on tax bills. The vote, with Judge Stephens voting for an ordinance which would have put Knifley and Breeding Fire Dues on tax bills was 4-4, with CJE Stephens voting for the proposal. When the votes were tallied, however, he withdrew his vote to allow the the motion to die, raising the question, "How are tie votes on the court decided?" Seth Coomer Graduates from University of KY College of Law

Seth Coomer, Adair County native, graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the University Of Kentucky College of Law in a commencement ceremony held on Friday, May 8, 2015, at the UK Singletary Center for Fine Arts.

While at the University of Kentucky, Seth participated in moot court, student activities, legal research, externship experiences, and clerking for The Honorable Judge Tamra Gormley, Circuit Court, Family Division for Bourbon, Scott, and Woodford counties.

Seth graduated from Adair County High School in 2008 and then graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2012 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in History and Philosophy.

Seth is the son of David and Pat Coomer, the grandson of Charles and Eulah Helm and Willard and the late Sharon Coomer all of Columbia, KY.

Seth and his wife Katy (Walker) reside in Lexington, KY where he clerks for the Stephen M. O'Brien III, PLLC law firm.
