Night shift at Rowe Farms
2015-08-30 - Rowe Farms, 909 Keltner Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Fred Rowe. Fred Rowe caught this magic moment at Rowe Farms, Inc, and, finally admitting that he actually gets paid to work here along with some fabulous benefits, including a really good backyard. He says the family enjoys providing the farm scenery we all enjoy, but that if any carpetbaggers come along offering them 500K/an acre along, as some of the land between the Public Square and Campbellsville might be fetching, to send them his way. Rowe Farms overlooks and can be looked up to from Kentucky's Heartland Parkway. - EW

Is it or is it not safe to cross? Is it in fact a crosswalk?
2015-08-30 - Crosswalk Campbellsville Street at the Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Downtown Columbia is a natural walking campus and should be part of what makes Columbia one of the most walkable cities in America. The .2 mile around the sidewalks - for one mile with five laps - offers a lot of what many pedestrians and walk-for-health want: There are benches and seats along the way, there are, through the week, places to get a drink of of water, and public restrooms are readily assessible. And food is at hand. There are some tripping hazards. The biggest, easiest to fix improvement is lack of paint, lack of adequately marked crosswalk. At least one of Columbia's neighbors has its own municipal striping machine and skilled operator(s). It's remarkable what a difference that one factor does to improve it's "Walkable Cities" score. Adequately marked crosswalks, and more of them, would do so much to get people out, safely utilizing a very enjoyable, very low cost health maintenance program - just walking five + miles, making 10,000 steps a day, at the expense of only shoe leather. - EW

Small signs should make significant improvement
2015-08-30 - Burkesville Street entrance to Columbia, KY Public Square - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM. The Square is now marked one way on each Yield sign at entrances to the Square, which should make Square Safety champion Charles Grimsley smile. Don't know whose great idea it was, but it appears to be insight of obvious genius - after somebody thought of it. The signs should work. Does anyone know who to thank for them? - EW
