Richmond man wins vehicle in Trooper Island raffle
2015-10-14 - Richmond, KY - Photo courtesy Les Williams, Kentucky State Police. Richmond resident Thor Morrision (center) received the keys to a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE pickup truck from Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer (right), Tpr. Jonathan Biven, director of the Trooper Island Camp and Danny Gibson (left), owner of Bailey-Gibson Buick GMC in Glasgow, KY. Morrison won the vehicle in a raffle held to benefit Trooper Island, a free summer camp for underprivileged boys and girls age 10-12 operated by the Kentucky State Police on Dale Hollow Lake in Clinton County. It is financed entirely by donations, no public funds are used. Each year, the camp hosts approximately 700 children, providing good food, fresh air, recreation, guidance and structured, esteem-building activities designed to build good citizenship and positive relationships with law enforcement officers. Vintage radio display at Katie Murrell Library 14 & 21 Oct 2015
2015-10-14 - Photo by Phil Hanna. Display of vintage radios at LWC 14 & 21 Oct 2015: If you're out of warranty, you may be old enough to remember when your father told you to turn on the radio to listen to H.V. Kaltenborn or Lowell Thomas with the news on a radio which might look just like one of these in this photo which shows just part of the collection. The Katie Murrell Library is hosting a display of vintage radios (1925-1950) from the collection of Dr. Jean Oostens, resident of Columbia and professor of physics. Today, Wednesday, October 14 at 2:30pmCT, and again next Wednesday, October 21, 2015 Dr. Oostens will be in the Thomas D. Clark reading room, Katie Murrell Library, 235 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY, to talk about radios as technology and means of communication. - Phil Hanna

Lunch time day trip roads of Adair Co., KY: Short Cut Road
2015-10-14 - South of Glens Fork, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo. Sometimes just the name of the road makes it a must-go-down, as we did on impulse when a lunch time road trip & picnic took us to Crocus and we noticed this sign - seems like for the first time - just south of Glens Fork. Since all roads which get one from one destination to another by another way are 'short cuts' to my husband, even if they take twice as long to travel, we broke a cardinal rule - always move forward, there will be something even more interesting up the road and went back to drive this one. Won't spoil the fun, but it is a gorgeous .2 mile blacktop slow road (it's narrow), and is, in fact, a genuine short cut from KY 55 South Road to KY 76 and a return to Glens Fork. It's Adair County Road CR#1200. Photo 13 Oct 2015. - Linda

Historic Adair County Courthouse from another perspective
2015-10-14 - Historic Adair Co. Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo Ed Waggener. It was during an attempt to get the bird-on-the-basket that this somewhat different perspective on one of the most photographed public buildings in America was captured. It could be captioned "One Way to Progress," and be appropriate, but that doesn't quite fit with "Yield." - EW
