Opposing votes three times tonight
2015-06-22 - City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Councilmen Ron Rogers, front, and Charles Grimsley cancelled each other's votes tonight at the Special Called Meeting of the Columbia City Council on all three issues before the council. Rogers voted for all three and was joined on all three by Council Members Linda Waggener and Craig Lasley each time, and by Craig Dean on two of the proposals. Council Member Dean voted with Grimsley in opposing the plan to put all the money from the Payroll tax into the General Fund rather than allocating to special groups. The Payroll Tax is now projected to bring in $800,000 per year. - EW

2015-06-22 - Campbellsville University, Campbellsville, KY - Photo CU photo by Joshua. Beginnings, endings, beginnings seem to be what the world of higher education is about in commencement seasons. It's the same as in raising children, you must let go and remain in gratitude for the time in each others presence. The young woman in the middle, Davaajargal Dorjsuren, is leaving Campbellsville University this month for Texas where she begins doctoral work at Texas Tech University. Davva, as she is known to friends in this region, came to CU from Mongolia as a freshman international student. While at CU she has received her BA in 2009, her MBA in 2011 then was hired to teach in the School of Business and Economics. With Davva right before the start of her going away reception given by the CU School of Business are two of her many devoted friends, Joan C. McKinney, left, and Linda Waggener, at right.

Tall mature poke plant at Holladay Place
2015-06-22 - Patricia Trail, Holladay Place, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. About as pretty a specimen of a mature poke plant as one can find around anywhere on the site of the soon-to-be-built Sleep Inn hotel, located on Patricia Trail in Holladay Place, the immediate street in the photo. Burkesville Road is passed over in the photo, the inviting road seemingingly reaching the sky, centered between the poke plant and the bank sign is Mountainview Lane. - EW
