2015-06-23 - Columbia City Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
The huge ash tree which fell during last week during a storm across several monuments and the main drive through the Columbia City Cemetery was being cleared Monday, June 22, 2015 by Marvin Morgan and crew. Morgan said that he was doing the job as a subcontractor for Donnie Rowe, and that the wood he's loading belonged to Rowe. Morgan said that from what he could determine, a number of stones had been knocked down by the tree, but it appeared none had been damaged. - EW

Obstacles pervade for a Walkable Columbia

2015-06-23 - by Red Brick Studio - Photo by Ed Waggener.
A stumbling hazard for pedestrians is problem spot in the one hundred block of Burkesville Street. The heavily used pedestrian crossing from the Bank of Columbia to this side of Burkesville Street is unmarked; there is no marked, protected crossing at Burkesville and Fortune Streets; The crossing for the Columbia United Methodist Church is faded. Up ahead, the visible car was driving a safe speed, but it is at the point, where, Mary Ann Loy noted in a recent presentation to the Columbia City Council, the street widens coming into town, and she noted, "the race is on." - EW

Demolition work at old Waterworks: New entrance, parking

2015-06-23 - Waterworks Street, Columbia, KY - Photo Waterworks Street, Columbia, KY.
Heavy equipment and a succession of big truck loads of fill material were building up a new entrance on the Fairground Street side of the site of the old Columbia Waterworks yesterday, Monday, June 22, 2015 when this photo was taken. Bradley Hayes, an employee of Pyles Excavating, said that the new entrance, evident just to the right of the tipped dump, will lead to a parking lot for the new Water Park, Paddle Adair trailhead. Some of the fill comes from the existing debris; a large amount is being hauled to the site, as were the two truck loads in the photo. Driver Timmy Black is waiting in the white truck as Chris Morrison unloads. The work is scheduled for completion in early August, before a deadline for funding expires.
