Hearing community leaders testify for hospital

2015-07-01 - Hospital Cafe, Westlake Regional Hospital, 901 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo.
The Board of Trustees at the front table listened with rapt entrance as community leaders voiced support for Westlake in a packed Hospital Cafe last night. From left, they are Trustees B. Keltner, Bruce White, David Herbst, and Board Chair RIchard Grant, CEO Neal Gold, and Public Relations chief Justin Mardis. Media at the press table, Mike Wilson, left, and slightly in frame, Sharon Burton, were recording the stories. As the hospital gets closer to emergence from Chapter 9 bankruptcy, Chairman Richard Grant quipped, "We now see light at the end of the tunnel. We just hope it's not a train." The photo was taken at the Adair County Hospital District's regular, last Tuesday, monthly meeting, Tuesday, June 30, 2015. - EW

Judge Walker tells trustees WRH is vital to community

2015-07-01 - Hospital Cafe, Westlake Regional Hospital, 901 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo.
Former Adair County CJE Richard Walker spoke briefly at the June 30, 2015, regular meeting of the Adair County Hospital District Board of Trustees meetings, giving his support to the now optimistic efforts to see the facility continue a tradition of service. He told the audience that the hospital has been there for him when he needed it, and that it is likely the reason he has escaped close calls in the past. "I probably wouldn't be here today if it weren't for Westlake," he said. Walker's family has been closely associated with the hospital(s) since Adair County first established the old Adair Memorial Hospital and later, its successor, Westlake. His mother, the late Evelyn Barnes Walker, was a steadfast member of the Westlake Hospital Auxiliary, a selfless group which stood by the hospital through thick and thin - EW

Show of support for Westlake Regional Hospital

2015-07-01 - Hospital Cafe, Westlake Regional Hospital, 901 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo.
Among the dignitaries and community leaders who turned out to show support for Westlake Regional Hospital were Carter White and his father, Adair County Regional Jailer Joey White, and Adair County Emergency Disaster Manager Mike Keltner. Adair County Judge Mike Stephens had invited leaders from City Council, County government, and community leaders to be at the meeting, an optimistic one, all around, as the board learned from CEO Neal Gold and CFO David Hayes that the hospital expects to end the month of June 2015 and Fiscal Year 2014-2015 in the black, the first time the hospital has shown a profit in 18 years - the last time was 1997, according to Board of Trustees Chair Richard Grant.

Little white dog wandering Haven Hill to Cloverport Estates

2015-06-30 - 1200 block, Liberty Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Alan W. Reed.
Small dog apparently lost - Finally was able to her to pause for a photo. This small female dog is wearing a collar and has spent yesterday and today wandering back and forth between Haven Hill Cemetery and Cloverport Estates. There is a good chance the dog has been "spooked" by the recent storms since none of us have been able to get closer to her than about 50 feet. In an attempt to buy time for the owner or animal control officer, concerned Cloverport residents are attempting to help the small dog back across KY 206, one of the busiest roads in Adair County. It had taken up temporary residence near the end of Creekport Drive and at Bob White's home near the junction of KY 206 (Liberty Road) and Cloverport Drive. - ALAN W. REED

Kids are devastated after black pup strays and is lost

2015-06-30 - W. Frazier Avenue, Columbia, KY - Photo by Thomas Rayburn.
My kids recently adopted a stray dog and fell in love with her. She somehow managed to get out of our fenced in back yard on West Frazier right in town. My little ones are devastated. She is a young black pup with white and brown markings on her legs an chest like a Rottweiler, but built like a lab; she has a white stripe up her face and blue eyes that almost look white.
