Casey County Education Center, Liberty, KY

2015-07-11 - Liberty, KY - Photo photo by Alan W. Reed of foamboard rendering .
Superintendent Alan W. Reed took this photo of an artist's rendering of the new Casey County Community and Education Center in Liberty, KY. A similar facility may be in the future for Columbia, KY in the not too distant future. In Columbia, the facility would be primarily directed at Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTSC) on the vocational side. "It would be complementary to our existing ties to area liberal arts colleges and universities," Superintendent Reed said. "Our efforts are to better serve all students, not just those going to colleges." Already, vocational education effort is paying huge dividends. Local manufacturer Robin Wilkerson of Assisted Transportation Systems, said that not only is he hiring excellent welders for his plants, but that at least one new prospect for Green River Commerce Park - or somewhere along the Heartland Parkway between Campbellsville and Columbia - is as excited about the vocational training for his employees as he is about the transportation and cultural advantage attracting him to this area. The Casey County Community and Education Center is located in Downtown Liberty and offers a range of courses, including liberal arts. There is only a remote possibility for such a center in Downtown Columbia. More likely, Superintendent Reed said, a new vocational center would be built close to Adair County High School. The cost of the facility will be in the $3.5-4 million range, Supt. Reed said, with only minimal district or community cost. - EW
