Sunflowers brighten Oak Street on rainy 14 Jul 2015

2015-07-14 - Oak Street, Eastern Shortcut Bypass, Columbia, KY - Photo CM Photo.
Oak Street wasn't flooded by the high waters in the draw at about 7:30amCT this Tuesday morning, a very rainy 14 Jul 2015. The water is, however, creating travel problems this morning, with the likelihood of hydroplaning occurring frequently everywhere, and lack of traction sometimes makes entry on the main throughfares, such a Parrott Avenue onto Campbellsville Road, and iffy proposition. A bright spot in this pretty scene is the row of sunflowers. - CM

Favorite old photo: Remember when this event occurred

2015-07-14 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo from mystery contributor. Remember this scene from an Adair County Bell Pepper Festival of days gone by. Millions of Americans would recognize that the Princess is Becky Arnold as a teenager, b The man walking is William "Little Bug" Knight. Someone thinks the driver is Junior Stotts. The year of the event? Any other details? If so, share your knowledge with the world by replying using the Comments? button with this photo. - CM

A is for Adair Co. School District and attention to detail

2015-07-14 - 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Blake Hatcher, owner of Luxury Landscaping, was building a 108 ft., 2 tier terrace between the faculty/staff parking lot and Adair County High School yesterday, Monday, July 13, 2015. The terrace won't be nearly so high as the grand one at Lewis Transport which Hatcher recently installed, but it will be an eye catcher. The terrace may not be planted when students arrive on Thursday, August 6, 2015 for the first day of school, Hatcher said. Those will come after a decision is made by the management, which is targeting the first home football Friday for the campus' peak of perfection, to wow visitors with the sparkling transformation of the campus. - CM

Beautiful Tiger Lillies at Mile Marker 25 on KY 768

2015-07-14 - Mile Marker 25, KY 768 near Glens Fork, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM.
Tiger Lillies are the stunners in the flower world at this time. These are the old fashioned kind - the tall ones which lean a bit to a lot - and bring back memories of gardens from many decades ago, especially those by the basket weave fence which separated the Jim Beard place on Jamestown Street (think Jeffries Electric Showroom today) and the Russell Miller Place (think world headquarters of United Citizens Bank today). This photo is an outtake of the 8-10' diameter bed which made us do something we occasionally are compelled to do - turn around and go back for picture. - LW/EW Oh, and by the way, Mile Marker 25 KY 768, means you are 25 miles from the roads beginning at KY 61 and Milltown Road, and just four miles from KY 768's terminus, at KY 92. Great sandwich for a picnic noon hour day trip to know-your-county-better tour.
