KDA uses simulator rollover tractor for safety demos
2015-07-19 - Crestwood, Oldham County, KY - Photo KY Dept. of Agriculture. Kentucky Department of Agriculture intern James Edington uses the KDA’s one-of-a-kind rollover tractor simulator to show Bart Thompson of Crestwood, right, and his son, Wyatt, what happens during a rollover accident without a rollover protective structure during the Kentucky Farm Fest July 11 in Crestwood. The rollover tractor simulator will be on display at the Tennessee Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference later this month. Farm safety has been improving in Kentucky. Kentucky recorded 14 farming-related fatalities in 2014, the Kentucky Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation Program reported. That compares to 50 agricultural fatalities in 1995, the highest number in the past 20 years.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Four sauces at Malachi Smoke House
2015-07-18 - Malachi Smoke House, 234 Steve Drive, Russell Springs, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM. At the newly opened Malachi Smoke House in Russell Springs, I tried the pulled pork sandwich and both kinds of slaw, vinegar and creamy. The meat came plain with sauces to be added at the taster's choice. Sauces on each table for sampling included Carolina Mustard, Texas Hot, Kansas City Sweet and Carolina Vinegar. I'm going to have to do more tasting, working out which may be my favorite. -- LW. Paired photo. See also: Food news

Epicurean Kentuckian: The Harrises at Malachi Smoke House
2015-07-18 - Malachi Smoke House, 234 Steve Drive, Russell Springs, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM. I stopped in at the new Malachi Smoke House restaurant in Russell Springs, formerly The Porch, thinking I'd just sample barbecue, but I got more than just good food. I enjoyed learning the new owners are Mike and Laura Henry Harris of Columbia, KY and they are in the restaurant business because of a vision and faith. You'll see on the back of their menu, Malachai 3:10 … "bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house." -- LW. Paired photo. 2015-07-18 - Intersection, Campbellsville & Fairground Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The entrance to the Rob Wilkerson property has been paved and the whole new intersection appears to just lack a finish layer of blacktop and a few small touches to be complete. This photo was taken Saturday, July 18, 2015. - EW
