KY Afield Outdoors: Time to try the fly and rind
2015-10-29 - Lake Cumberland - Photo by Lee McClellan. Swimming a jig fooled this nice smallmouth bass, caught by Lexington resident James Charas several years ago on a cold December day from Lake Cumberland. Now is the time to swim a hair jig and pork trailer combination for cold water black bass. Sloping banks, like the ones in the background of the photo, are high percentage cold weather spots to swim a hair jig with a pork trailer, called a "fly and rind" in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Fall 2015: peaceful farm scene
2015-10-29 - a wandering road somewhere north of Columbia, KY - Photo By Linda Waggener. Not sure whether this peaceful field of freshly baled hay is in Adair or in Green County. You just find it where the Pelham Branch Road eases into the Caney Fork Road, heading from Adair toward Green County. The county line marker may have wound up at some time in a teenager's room, or this photographer could simply have overlooked it in favor of the scenery. The little black spots on the big bale near the center of the photo are vultures scanning for lunch.

Autumn: Little girl and the broom
2015-10-29 - Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo Pen. Our drive was clean for a day. Hailey never has to be asked. One trait she gets from her grandfather: She'd rather be working than playing. When she's in Columbia, she not only takes over the CM drivers seat, and tells me, "Granddad, I'm fixing your computer," she also does grown up chores. Above showing off her sweeping technique. Pretty good. Granddad- EW
