2015-11-05 - 413 Fairgound Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Jason Mardis, Aerial Concepts (c) 270-250-1867 drone photo .
This aerial view of the 2015 Adair County Fair by Jason Mardis, Aerial Concepts (c) is similar to an earlier one posted on 3 Nov 2015, but this one encompasses more territory, including, top right, a view of The Green Hills bridge and Green Hills subdivision. is clearly in view in this one, for those familiar with the terrain. Clicking Read More accesses a clarification from LWC Director of Public Relations Duane Bonifer - on the ownership status of the fairgrounds and assurances that whatever happens in ongoing negotiations with VFW Post 6097 - the 2016 Adair County Fair may be staged at the historic location at 413 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY. Great trees of Adair County: Elbow tree on Cane Valley Mill Road

2015-11-04 - Near Adair/Green County line - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo.
For many years now, perhaps with two-three dozen passings or more we've watched for the "Elbow" or "Biceps" tree we call it, but had thought it was gone. Today, Linda had a Eureka moment when she spotted it. Over the years, it seems to have gotten bigger in it's horrizontal trunk, and is now lower to the ground. When we first saw it three or four decades ago, it seems, in memory, that the horizontal length was several feet above ground. Now, there must be only inches. It was a wonderful reunion - not being fully Druid, we didn't talk to the tree, but if we had, we might have said, "It's so wonderful to see you again." - EW

Help with bee ID and relo needed

2015-11-04 - Photo By Linda Waggener.
Calling on Columbiamagazine.com readers for help with identification and relocation of these bees or Yellow Jackets. They have found a clever place to build their home in the space between two boards in this building where they are not wanted. Two cans of commercial high pressure spray have not daunted them one bit as it only hits the boards and not the hive inside. If you blow the photo up you can see the face of the bee flying toward the camera with an expression of confidence that no human will intimidate the bee. The photo is a bit fuzzy because the photographer WAS intimidated and backing quickly away.
