CJE Mike Stephens, listening during special court session
2015-11-25 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens, standing; listened intently to a presentation during which some major decisions were made. For one, the county locked into a 10 year contract for the operation of the Adair County Transfer Station with the current operators, Waste Connections, Inc. In something of a showdown, Waste Connections, Inc. refused to extend its contract for six months to allow magistrates to consider other options, including a county-owned, recycling oriented system, requested by Magistrate Daryl Flatt (District 2). The contract will mean a somewhat better deal on the franchise fee revenue stream coming to the county, slightly higher rates for customers in the county. The court voted unanimously, in the end for CJE Stephens proposal. Judge Stephens won on another showdown: The court voted unanimously to pay its share of of the cost of a new sewer line which will provide service to the "front" (nearest to Campbellsville Road) section of Green River Commerce Park. The line is essential to a contract with Chrysler Motors for Rob Wilkerson's latest venture, Wilkerson Auto & Mobility Sales, LLC. Mr. Wilkerson will be adding 11 new jobs as part of a $215,000 Community Block Grant agreement with the State of Kentucky. The balance of the project money will be provided by the local EDA, $36,000; the City of Columbia, $35,000; and now Adair County Fiscal Court, $35,000. Above, at podium, (Magistrate Perry Reeder (District 1) is to left, off camera), Magistrates Sammy Baker (2), Daryl Flatt (2); Harold Burton (3); Adair County Deputy CJE Holly Grimsley, (Judge Stephens); recording clerk Gale Cowan; County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison Corbin; Magistrates Billy Dean Coffey (5), Magistrate Greg Caldwell (6) hidden behind lamp; and Magistrate Terry Hadley (7) also hidden. On the right, front, Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss, and, hidden, Treasurer Barry Corbin. - EW

Heavenly Hollow has first Christmas Village Postcard
2015-11-24 - 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ellen Zornes, Columbia/Adair Co. Chamber of Commerce. The first Christmas Card on the square is up! Robbie Selch and his wife, Karen (face in cut out), owners of United Country Heavenly Hollow Real Estate and Auction, placed the first Christmas Card for the village today. Robbie said that they hated that they missed the Squarecrows but we're ready for this! Lee Ann Jessee has the master plan at the library, but the gist is to add them next to each other around the lawn of the courthouse, then we'll start on the perimeter of the Annex lawn. We're expecting a good sized village of the cards and we do ask to please remember to register your card at the library. Our square will soon 'be alive' again and what an opportunity for photo ops.

Full moon rising through limbs of old sycamore - Cool Springs
2015-11-24 - Cool Springs Creek Farm - Photo by Guy Babin . My trusty hound Jake and I tried our best to capture the beauty of a fall full moon rising through the knarled limbs of an old sycamore sentinel during our "dusky dark" walk this eve on Cool Springs Creek Farm. We didn't do the scene justice of course, but we felt the beauty and gratitude in our collective souls - both hound and man. Still thankful in Gradyville- Paradise USA,Guy Babin
