With our people in military service: SSgt Dan Kermeen, Okinawa

2015-12-21 - Okinawa - Photo submitted by Pam Kermeen.
We received this message Friday, December 18, 2015, from our son, SSgt Daniel Kermeen, who is currently serving the USMC in Okinawa, Japan. Daniel, he's the one holding the red folder: "This afternoon 12th Marine Regiment awarded me the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. It was an honor working with Marines of that caliber, I will never forget the lessons I learned from that unit! Semper Fi!!" He will be leaving after Christmas for a month long deployment to another location (living in 2-man tents in single digit temperatures) We are very proud of our son and have recently mailed him a care package full of hand and foot warmers and various other necessities for cold weather camping! - Pam Kermeen, Columbia, KY

Christmas Lights 2015: St. Nick may not make it here

2015-12-20 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener and Geniece Marcum.
The family dog, far right, isn't sure old St. Nick should be trying to enter the home. Plenty of icicles along the porch remind us that decorative lights may be the only way we get ice this Christmas with temperatures predicted to be in the 50s and 60s.
