Swallows Lane - Tell us. we don't know, but would like to
2016-01-04 - Elkhorn Loop, Elkhorn, Taylor County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM. The street sign is intriguing. It's on the main lane in Historic Elkhorn (or Elk Horn, we've seen it both ways). One of the area's most treasured hidden secrets. Bird enthusiasts may hope there is a connection to swallows, but we're leaning toward another idea. Can anyone share more information? Sun 03 Jan 2016 wasn't our first visit to the delightful hidden community off Elkhorn Road, and accessed through a narrow cut where well maintained property, the Elkhorn Cemetery, and a beautifully maintained United Methodist Church is located - beside this sign. We should have stopped and asked, but we fell into Pooh Bear Mode, some spiral cut, honey-baked turkey, a wonderful Christmas present, was calling us. If you go to Elkhorn/Elk Horn, remember that while the main lane is a public road, you're a visitor in the neighborhood. The residents have done so much to maintain it, you'll want to respect it as though it were a gated city, which it almost is. - CM

Feathered Guardians of Burress Hollow Road
2016-01-03 - Main crossing, Burress Hollow Road at Speck Ridge Road, Downtown Feathersburg, KY, - Photo by Ed Waggener. They gave ground, cleared the roadway, but this pair of geese and the duck in the lead did so defiantly. Seen in Feathersburg, the capitol of Speck Ridge Road. Greater Feathersburg is partly in Adair, partly in Casey, and partly in Taylor Counties. Photo Sun 3 Jan 2016. - EW

Clouds like birds over Egypt, KY
2016-01-03 - From Knifley Road/KY 551 at Egypt, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. These clouds in the sunset looked like birds in a perfect single row flight pattern. From left to right, like Geese landing. From right to left, still birds, but more like swallows ascending. Either way, a gorgeous sight. Photo Sun 3 Jan 2016. - EW

Epicurean Kentuckian: Chunky salsa & chips, Black Stallion Steakhouse
2016-01-03 - Black Stallion Steakhouse, 1215 North Main, Monticello, KY - Photo Ed Waggener. The Chips & Salsa at Black Stallion Steakhouse in Monticello is not a freebie, but for many, the $1.99 charge for salsa serving which is generous, and chunky, with texture is worth in these days when so many Mexican restaurants dumb down the salsa to the point it's hardly more than thin, pureed tomato sauce, it was worth it. - EW

Monticello, KY - Downtown farmers market
2016-01-03 - Wayne County KY - Photo By Linda Waggener. The Downtown Wayne County Marketplace in Monticello is a permanent, pavilion just off the Square. There is plenty of parking, and the Wayne County Public Library is just steps away.
