Scenic Kentucky: Overlooking Otter Creek

2016-01-31 - Meade Co., KY - Photo by Pen.
The trails go on for miles and miles, but there's a pretty spectacular view less than a half mile from the parking lot closest to the entrance of Otter Creek Recreation Area. Graham Waggener is enjoying the view before heading further into the forest on Otter Creek Trail, and you can see the parking lot at top right in the frame.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Brewing with the Chemex

2016-01-31 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen. Fans of cars with manual transmissions and Swing Away can openers will be right at home with the Chemex, an artful, low-tech coffee maker that's been kicking around the kitchens of chemists and coffee snobs since about the middle of the 20th century.

Have you told Adair Public Schools what you think?

2016-01-31 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Harper, Adair County Schools Media PR/Technology Resourse Teacher/Migrant Recruiter.
Have you had time to visit the Adair public schools website and take their community outreach survey since it was announced? In a short survey/feedback form everyone is able to leave feedback on what is right versus what needs improvement. This photo on the site's banner showing Billy Salmon singing in the ACMS Idol contest is an example of several activity photos that rotate. The survey logo is midway down the page under the banner. Go to adair.kyschools.us for the survey.

Mother Nature's artwork from storm one week ago

2016-01-31 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
A look up just one week ago, after our area received over a foot of snow plus a layer of ice, got this very different view from today's balmy breezes. Thanks to everyone who shared photos of their super white world. Only a few patches of snow remain now and my Grandaddy Marcum would say it's just waiting there for more snow. He had many sayings about the weather and signs in the sky -- every movement of the creator had meaning for what us humans should be doing on earth. He'd be getting ready to observe Groundhog day coming up in a couple of days and making all sorts of planting plans from there.
