Seeding and Strawing is complete, and the new Adair County Transportation Complex is virtually ready for service. Only a few relatively minor punchlist items need completion in addition to installation of parking lot paving and the paving itself. Project Manager Richard Bunch of Branscum Construction said that Gaddie-Shamrock will make the parking lot a priority when the plant is fired up on Monday, March 21, 2016 and he expected to begin then. David Jones, Buildings & Grounds and Transportion Director for the Adair County School District, told the board of education last night that the transition from the J.T. Coomer Bus Garage to this facility would take place shortly after the current semester is complete. He said that both the baseball season and safety were factors in the schedule. Richard Bunch, left, of Russell County, KY, received a certification of appreciation last night, Thu 17 Mar 2016, during the regular March session of the Adair County School Board. Bunch was project construction manager for Branscum Construction of Russell Springs, KY, in charge of building the new bus garage, officially named the "Adair County Transportation Complex," David Jones, right, Adair County Schools Buildings and Grounds Superintendent, made the presentation. He said that Mr. Bunch told him, at the outset, that he would do his very best and build the structure for Mr. Jones as if he were building his own home. The Adair County School Board, in its regular session Thu 18 Mar 2016, declared this decades old building surplus and approved a plan, presented by Buildings & Grounds Superintendent David Jones, to have razed starting at the end of the 2015-2016 school year. The new Adair County Transportation Complex lacks on paving, installation of lights, and minor punch list items to be ready, now. Paving is scheduled for Mon 21 Mar 2016. Moochie Hart reports on success of Healthy Kids Clinic 2016-03-18 - 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Clarissa "Moochie" Hart of Cumberland Family Medical (CFM), gave a report on the first year, thus far, of CFM's Healthy Kids Clinic contract with the Adair County School District. Her report of a successful year was attested to by a teacher parent, principals, and even Superintendent Alan Reed, who said he was spared time off by being seen by Tiffany McMinoway, the program's nurse practitioner. He was sent to see his doctor, and learned that he did not in fact, have a strep infection; and was able to return to school almost immediately. In the period since the program began, August 1, 2015 to the report time of March 15, 2016, Hart said CMF providers has 2,247 total patient encounters, an average of 18 patients a day. The program provided 632 flu shots, 68 immunizations, 4 well child exams, 42 well child immunizations, eight procedures, five lab draws, 79 School/Sports Physicals and saw 183 new patients, 1,135 established patients, and had 87 follow up visits. - EW Read More... | Comments? | Click here to share, print, or bookmark this photo.

Adair Schools take major leap forward in technology 2016-03-18 - 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Carla Perkins, Adair Co. Schools Technology Director. The Adair County Board of Education approved a plan presented by Technology Director Carla Perkins to add a total of 462 Instructional Devices - a combination of 162 iPads and 300 Chromebooks - to bring all schools to a one device for every two students - next year. Following the approval, Perkins said she would begin the process of ordering the devices immediately, so that the devices plus carts for them, will be available for the start of the 2016-2017 school year. The devices will be paid for with escrowed KET funds matched by $60,000. The Total cost if approximately $168,000. The extra $8,000 will be paid for by Technology Department funds, Perkins said.
