"As a child I spent a lot of time in Cumberland Co. My family roots are deep in this area. Many afternoons we would ride up to the Alpine just to have something to do. At the time there was always a bustle of activity. Tourists frequented the motel. People drove miles to eat at the restaurant & more often than not, there were people on the overlook. Recently we drove up the hill and it was kind of lonely, but the view was still as beautiful as ever," Jane Smith writes
