Wildflower of Kentucky: Yellow Spring Flowers on Dunbar Hill 2016-04-15 - Elkhorn Road, KY 76, Knifley, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. This was a 'go back' flower - spotted while headed west on KY 76 going up Dunbar Hill. We turned back on Tucker Woods Road to photograph these yellow flowers, hoping to identify them using all the references we've been given, but the closest thing, after a half-hour search was evening primrose and we don't trust that. Maybe Billy Joe Fudge will come up with a class on Wildflower identification at the next HGR Plow Day. Maybe someone knows of an App you just show the picture and it gives ID and more information than you can process about any flower. For now, we're not proud. We don't know. Clumps of pale lavender violets dot the hillside above Spout Springs by the Giles House near Knifley. Love the setting. When I got home and edited the photo, I found I was not alone. WKU biology professor receives NSF grant to study sleep loss 2016-04-15 - Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY - Photo WKU photo. Dr. Noah T. Ashley, assistant professor in the Department of Biology, was awarded $325,048 for fiscal year 2016, a National Science Foundation research grant to study how arctic songbirds have adapted to diminished sleep patterns and how that might help in the understanding of sleep loss in humans. The continuing grant will begin on April 15, 2016, and continue until 2021. Over the course of the next five years, the grant is expected to total $965,048. Mr. Ike was offered free yesterday morning, Thu 14 Apr 2016, in a CM Freecycling ad. From the description, it was evident he was special, and asked for his photo. Photos usually are a major reason why classified ads work, but in this case, Mr. Ike had a pending new home, cross town in Gradyville, KY, in less than 24 hours remaining in Paradise, USA. Only the chance that the transaction will fall through would give another lucky individual the opportunity to acquire this magnificent animal, but we needed to post him, just so you can eat your heart out over a missed opportunity. - CM.
