Magistrate Sammy Baker listening to Road Discussion

2016-02-10 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, CM.
Third District Magistrate Sammy Baker was listening to discussions on a new configuration of equipment last night. The magistrates voted to deploy only one of the big Mack Trucks leased through World Wide Equipment, and to buy a smaller dump truck of another brand which could be equipped with a snowplow, and saltbox. Magistrate Baker gave high accolades to the Road Department, to volunteers who helped, advocated for a well equipped county road department and endorsed Judge Stephens' doctrine of having ready available contractors to fill in in emergencies, as the late January snowstorm, to open farm-to-market and emergency route. - EW

Scenic Metcalfe Co., KY: Hiram Bell Bridge in snow 9 Feb 2016

2016-02-10 - Mosby Ridge Road, Eastern Metcalfe Co., KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, CM photo.
The Hiram Bell Bridge, also called Red Lick Bridge is a wonderful reminder of yesteryear, of the 1900's when such bridges were commonplace. It's located on Mosby Ridge Road, in Eastern Metcalfe County, KY. Is it the last such bridge in Metcalfe County? Except for restored bridge(s) on private property, Adair County no longer has any of the steel truss bridges. Adair is mentioned because Mosby Ridge Road is a passage, at this point, to Breeding, as well as other parts of SE Metcalfe county. Photo Tue 09 Feb 2016. - EW

Scenic Adair Co., KY - Snow along Cumberland Parkway

2016-02-09 - Gradyville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, CM photo.
A semi can be made out in the photo, but it's difficult to know that it is running west on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. The photo, taken from KY 80/Edmonton Road, shows an interest pattern with the logging road over the top of the deep cuts made for the parkway.

CES students learn about being a police officer

2016-02-09 - Campbellsville Elementary School, 315 Roberts Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo Calen McKinney, Campbellsville Independent Schools photo.
Campbellsville Police Officer Andy Warren spoke to CES Wings Express students on Monday, Feb. 8, about his job as a police officer. He told students about his uniform and weapons, and how police officers work to collect evidence and complete paperwork. Warren said being a police officer isn't exactly how it's portrayed on television. The police receive strange calls from time to time, and Warren told students about how officers handle those. He also talked about how students will be kept safe if someone came into their school with a weapon. Warren told students that, to be a police officer, they must graduate from high school and attend the police academy.
