Free Tire Disposal takes 34,000 tires from local environment 2016-05-11 - Kentucky Highway Department facility, 103 Service Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Charlie Crawhorn, Adair Co. Solid Waste Coordinator. Charlie Crawhorn, Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator gave us a brief aside final report on the three-day Free Tire Disposal which ended Saturday, May 7, 2016. In all, 18 semi truck loads were carried away, he said, totalling around 34,000 tires. He didn't know if that were a record, but he said that he understood that 3 years ago, the total was around 21,000 tires. The event wass sponsored by Adair County Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens, the Adair Fiscal Court, and the Kentucky Division of Waste Management. The court approved hiring David Smith to work as a part-time driver in Recycling, at a rate of $8.75 per hour. Neither the lightning nor the hail could be ignored last night. The lightning was downright wicked, and the hail was almost continuous. It melted quickly, There were awesome night scenes. Especially of the Historic Courthouse from the Adair Annex, which, because of the lightning, weren't taken when they should have been. CM hasn't received, at this time, 3:25amCT, any reports of storm damage.
