Adair County Republican Caucus Site: ACHS Gym

2016-03-05 - ACHS Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
There was little evidence at 8:31amCT, of the countywide Republican presidential caucus which would be held 10am-4pm local time at the Adair County High School gymnasium, but inside five or six party officials were inside preparing the gym to meet caucus rules. Adair County Republican Chair Shannon Rowe requested that CM inform the public that closing time will be enforced just as in a regular election: If you're standing in line at 4pm, you will be allowed to vote. Local color: Outside the polling place the only person we saw said he would certainly be voting - for Donald J. Trump. Caucus organizers are knowledge of caucus rules. They will be on hand answer questions.

Treasured memento - cup and saucer - recalls sweet memories

2016-03-05 - Edmonton, Metcalfe County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo.
Geniece Marcum was just given this sweet cup that Aunt Almedia Leftwich gave best friend Alene Miller after a shopping trip niece Patty Reid in California in 1987. Alene Miller was Almedia's best friend, a neighbor on Muncie Court. Mrs. Miller ran that wonderful upscale women's apparel shop just off the Square on West Stockton Street in Edmonton, KY. When Alene made the presentation, she told Geniece she'd kept the cup all these years and now wanted her to enjoy it. Ms. Marcum has had great fun recalling details of her California trip. - LW

Daffodils in full bloom in Roley

2016-03-05 - Roley, KY - Photo By Linda Waggener.
We were drawn to take pictures of these beautiful roadside Daffodils, and then took a moment to listen to the old Chelf voices across the road from the Roley Cemetery, and from The overgrown steps in the photo at left went up to an old Chelf home once located there and the foundation still waits for someone to build again. The closeup at right looks south toward the crossroads at Knifley, where imaginings of some old Chelf home being tugged from this family epicenter to Knifley, as the Old Coyles did in "Shipping News," is evoked, but that almost certainly never happened. - Ed & Linda.

Whitfield receives achievement award for diabetes advocacy

2016-03-05 - Washington, DC - Photo from the office of Rep. Ed Whitfield.
U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01) received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance during a reception held this week in Washington, DC. Whitfield served as Co-Chair of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus for the past five years before stepping down ahead of his retirement this fall. The Congressional Diabetes Caucus was founded in 1996 and is among the largest caucuses in Congress. "It is an honor to receive this award, just as it has been to be a part of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus," Whitfield said. "Though I do not have diabetes, I have seen first-hand from my constituents the challenges this disease poses for Americans of all ages. Our efforts these past few years through the Congressional Diabetes Caucus have helped combat this disease and hopefully will one day play a part in ending diabetes once and for all."
