On Guthrie Street: A reminder of My Mother's Garden

2015-09-27 - Guthrie Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM.
Morning glories make me happy with memories, especially purple ones - they remind me of my mother, Geniece Leftwich Marcum and her mother, Addie Turner Leftwich and Addie's Garden. These quite fine ones were found in a vacant lot of Guthrie Street in Columbia. Mom's wonderful lines included: Ah, but when fall came, when the last of the vegetables were about all gathered from this plot of ground, this was my favorite time. Morning glory vines that had escaped the hoe ran riot among the rows and blossoms in every color would come laughing to greet me and turn that corner of my world into a rainbow.. Scenic Adair Co., KY: A hint of fall color of Prices Creek Road

2015-09-27 - Prices Creek Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM .
The vistas are grand on Prices Creek Road in Adair County anytime of the year, and Sunday, September 27, 2015 is one of those days. Still, the signs of fall color are a prompt to remember to come back during the next two or three weeks. There won't be a prettier place in the world. The peak of fall color in our part of Kentucky will start around next Sunday and last maybe three weeks. Already we're seeing some fiery red sumac, one of our favorites. - LW
