A welcome dinner was held Monday evening for the incoming pastor of Columbia United Methodist Church, Rev. John Wesley Hatton, left, standing beside Rev. Neil Janes, the present pastor who has served Columbia UMC for the past seven years at its 202 Burkesville Street location. Rev. Janes, his wife Hope and their daughters Addison, 7, and and Stella, 5, are being moved to Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, KY. Rev. Hatton, his Wife Julie and their son Emory will be leaving his current church, Mayo United Methodist Church in Paintsville, KY and moving to Columbia. Adair Historian Mike Watson presents D-Day program 2016-06-07 - Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). The Adair County Genealogical Society and the Adair County Public Library jointly presented a talk by Adair Historian Mike Watson at the regular 1st Monday at 7pmCT meeting, June 6, 2016 of the genealogy group. Jane Grant, president presided over the well attended session. The books on the table were from the stacks at the library. The medals were those of an Adair Countian who served in the United States Air Force and was also a veteran of World War II. One book was written by Mike Watson, which includes the names of veterans of World War II from Adair County. Mr. Watson plans to incorporate those into a hardback book on Adair Countians who have served in the military since the Revolutionary War. Cats: Live hood ornament 2016-06-07 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com. Blue seems to prefer his role as hood ornament when the engine is running and there are occupants on the car. If disturbed, his exit is leap to the roof of the car; then when the car slowly starts to move, he jumps off in the opposite direction. Trees of Kentucky: Blossom from Tulip Tree 2016-06-07 - Green River Lake Visitors Center, 544 Lake Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com. From a distance, the blossoms of the Tulip Tree are not so showy, but on close inspection they are beautiful. This one, found recently at the Green River Lake visitors center and park, and many others fell close to its tree trunk, completely intact.
