Sunlight backlights flowers just right when sun & rain combine
2016-09-29 - Cane Valley, Adair County, KY - Photo by Robert Ellis (c). Took this picture Tuesday night when it was raining and sunshine combined. The sky had a golden/pinkish hue to it and backlighted the flowers just right; that coupled with the rain. - Robert Ellis

Cruising landmark from ACHS 1972 landmark
2016-09-29 - Columbia, KY - Photo from the display table, Class of 1972 44th year reunion, submitted by Sheila Grant Neat. An ad displayed at the 2016, 44th Year Class Reunion, ACHS class of 1972, included ad above for the Jim Dandy drive-in restaurant, at "the corner of Tutt & Hwy 55." Today is is the location of the Super America convenient store. The Jim Dandy is now only a very fond memory, but in 1972, very much a landmark at cruising time.

Cruising landmark, 1972: The Circle R
2016-09-29 - Columbia, KY - Photo from the display table, Class of 1972 44th year reunion. An ad displayed at the 2016, 44th Year Class Reunion, ACHS class of 1972, included ad above for the Circle R Restaurant, at 714 Russell Road, Columbia, KY. It's still in business, but is no longer a Drive-In and would be next to impossible to "Cruise" today.

Yearbook Ads ACHS of 1972 - A point along the Cruising Route
2016-09-29 - Downtown, Columbia, KY - Photo from the display table, Class of 1972 44th year reunion. Cruising in Columbia took a fairly standard route, always including a trip around the Public Square, always past this landmark, Collins Corner Drug, now the Flower Garden, and then a building which housed the David Wells Insurance Agency. Then is was up Jamestown Hill, to Russell Road, to circle the Circle R, then back to Jamestown Street and a left to circle the Jim Dandy Drive In, and then either a trip to the Square and repeat repeatedly, or; a variation from the Jim Dandy, across Tutt Street to the Burkesville and north to the Square for repeated cruises. The photo is from the 1972 ACHS Yearbook, submitted by Sheila Grant Neat.- EW

Remember the ACHS 'Walkout' ?
2016-09-29 - Columbia, KY - Photo from the Sheila Grant Neat. In the memorabilia photo(s) from the ACHS Class of 1972 reunion held in Gradyville, KY on September 24, 2016, there was the clipping, above. Has to make anyone from the era know or wonder what the 'walkout' was about. In any case, it tickles the imagination - one wonders how many have forgotten when the Adair County Board of Education, was downtown, and occupied only a small part of a second story building, which, according to the article, was in the Municipal Building at the time. But the bigger mystery is the 'walkout.' - EW
