Amy Thompson-Wells receives LWC Distinguished Service Award 2016-09-29 - Photo from LWC public relations. The LWC Distinguished Service Award goes to Amy Thompson-Wells '99. Few have done more to strengthen student leadership and deepen community engagement at Lindsey Wilson than Amy Thompson-Wells. She received a biology degree in 1999 from Lindsey Wilson with plans to pursue a medical career but soon realized she was drawn to service at her alma mater. After serving in various roles at the College, Thompson-Wells became co-director of an upstart service program called the Bonner Leaders. The Bonner Program deepened her commitment to service and increased her desire to create opportunities for students to get involved and help others. Under her leadership, the Bonner Program members volunteered more than 33,000 service hours in 2015-16. Membership has grown from eight students at its inception in 2005 to 63 students in 2016. Next year it is projected the Bonner Program will attract more than 80 students. Since 2010, the Lindsey Wilson Bonner Program has been named with distinction to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. In its short history, the Bonner Program has become the Bonner Scholars which means it is now an endowed scholarship program supported by the Bonner Foundation in Princeton, New Jersey. As the director of the LWC Bonner Scholars, Thompson-Wells is at the heart of everything the program accomplishes. A Green County native, Thompson-Wells lives in Columbia, Ky., with her husband Chris and their two children: Reilly Elizabeth and Greyson Banks. She earned a master's degree in education with an emphasis in student affairs from Western Kentucky University in 2007. Along with serving as director of the Bonner Scholar program she is also the Director of Civic Engagement and Student Leadership at LWC. Evlyn Komosa is LWC Honorary Alumna 2016-09-29 - Photo from LWC public relations. Evlyn Komosa has been a devoted supporter of the students and the mission of Lindsey Wilson College for more than 32 years. An Adair County native, Mrs. Komosa grew up on her family farm, was educated in Adair County, and moved away as a young woman to work in Louisville. While working in support of the war effort during World War II, she met her husband, Lt. Colonel Adam Komosa. For several years, Lt. Colonel Komosa's military career afforded them the opportunity to make many places around the world their home. Upon Lt. Colonel Komosa's retirement from the military, they retired to Adair County and Dr. Komosa joined the faculty of Lindsey Wilson College in the history department until his death. Mrs. Komosa is a longtime contributor to the Lindsey Wilson College endowment began the Dr. Adam Komosa Endowed Scholarship in his memory. The scholarship is designated to a history student from Adair County or Southcentral Kentucky. She enjoys attending Lindsey Wilson College cultural affairs events and has provided support to the arts and lecture series for many years. Paul Long honored as LWC Distinguished Alumnus 2016-09-29 - Photo from LWC public relations. LWC Distinguished Alumnus - J. Paul Long '75. For more than three decades, J. Paul Long has enjoyed a successful law career as an attorney in Stanford, Ky. He served as Lincoln County attorney from 1990-1997 and is currently on the Lincoln County Industrial Board. Long was a student at Lindsey Wilson College from 1973-75. During that time he served as president of student government, he was nominated as Mr. Lindsey Wilson and he was on the men's basketball team. He has a rich history that spans more than 40 years with the College. His mother, Bettye M. Long taught education courses at LWC during the 1980s. His son, Jared, is a 2011 graduate. Long has a passion for the Lindsey Wilson mission and its students and has been an avid supporter since he graduated in 1975. He and his wife, Carol, have established an endowed scholarship in honor of his parents, James P. and Bettye M. Long. The scholarship is designated to support junior and senior education students from Lincoln County. Mr. Long and his family reside in Stanford, Ky. and in his spare time he enjoys golf and exercise. Jeni South-Huff honored in LWC Athletic Hall of Fame 2016-09-29 - Photo from LWC public relations. Jeni South '04 is honored in the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame - Cycling (1997-2002). She captured the National Collegiate Cycling Association women's dual slalom national championship in 1997. She is the first Lindsey Wilson female student-athlete to win an individual national title in the school's history. South-Huff was a four-time Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference dual slalom champion. She helped LWC cycling to the 2000 and 2001 NCCA Cyclocross National Championship.
