The Columbia City Planning & Zoning Commission met in special sessions at 5:30pmCT and 5:45pmCT, Thu 3 Nov 2016 to consider a zoning change for the construction of an apartment complex on Hurt Street and to review drainage for Franklin Mall in the Holladay Place Shopping Center. The zoning change from Highway Oriented commercial to High Density Residential was approved the commission voted to recommend final approval to the Columbia City Council. The drainage review for Franklin Mall was tabled until 3pmCT, Monday, 7 Nov 2016, to give City Engineer Greg Eastham time to review the submission. Last Friday's tragic accident claimed its third life Wednesday morning, Nov. 2, 2016, when Adair County Middle School student Raquel Anyega passed away after spending several days in critical condition at UK Medical Center. While the community continues to mourn Raquel's loss, friends and teachers say they will cherish their memories with her for the rest of their lives. It's the site of an Eddie Franklin development, which will be the subject of a Planning & Zoning Review tonight at 5:30pmCT, at City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. The development will represent a major retail outlet and, eventually, will grow to include 50 new jobs in a later expansion.
