Campbellsville Middle School seventh-grader Darious Groves colors his illuminated letter, which was drawn as a football field. CMS students are learning to draw illuminated letters. In Jo Ann Harris's art class, students are studying how books were written in medieval times. When books were handwritten, the first letter of a page was often drawn much larger than the other letters and decorated with lots of color.Some letters were illuminated with gold leaf, which Harris said made the pages of a book look beautiful. A more modern version of illuminated letters depicts letters with bright colors and intricate designs. Terry Hadley (7), may not take fellow Kentuckian Henry Clay's mantle of being the Great Compromiser completely, but he did come up with a compromise solution to the problem of keeping the Adair County Regional Jail in compliance with Kentucky Department of Corrections regulations, which passed by a vote of 7-1 in last night's session of Adair County Fiscal Court, with Magistrate Daryl Flatt (2) the only opposing vote. Mr. Hadley's solution was to allow Adair County Jailer Joey White to expand full time employees to 23 - from 21 now authorized - with a followup by the Adair County Budget Committee to examine the feasibility of having full time employees work 40 hours instead of the present 36. Mr. White says that his plan saves the county money, essentially because it, with 23 employees, lowers overtime, especially in instances when it is necessary to make unexpected transports of inmates for medical, change of location for inmates, even delivery of babies by a jail inmate. The Adair Fiscal Court unanimously agreed with Second District Magistrate Daryl Flatt when he raised objections to pay a $3,000 legal bill for the Adair County Board of Elections from the Edmonton, KY, law firm of Howard & Howard, citing the circumstances under which a $5,000 legal bill, not previously authorized by the Court and the stipulations that the Court could not honor future legal bills on behalf of the Board of Elections unless the court's approval were first sought or unless ordered to pay the bill by the Circuit Court Judge. The item was the only one stricken from the payment of bills. All members of the court sided with Magistrate Flatt on this issue. However, on the motion to expand the number of full time Deputy Jailers from 21 to 23. Magistrate Flatt was joined by Billy Dean Coffey (5) and Gregg Caldwell (6), in objecting to creating two additional full time Adair County Regional Jail employees, raising the number from 21 to 23, as requested by Adair County Regional Jailer Joey White.
