Columbia/Adair County Utilities District Manager Lenny Stone, standing, has placed pin drops on a county map to show where customers of the utility have indicated they would like to have the service available. When the map above was displayed at the March monthly session of CAUD's trustees, there were approximately 350 respondents. At last count as of April 3, 2017, the number is over 650, with several survey forms yet to be tabulated. The survey effort is intensifying to reach a goal of 2,000 respondents, and survey forms are now be received at several points around Adair County, listed in the accompanying announcement. Mr. Stone says the utility is in a unique position to cut costs, utilizing several miles in scattered locations of abandoned water mains, which could be utilized for "slip casing" natural gas lines rather than digging new trenches. Construction and maintenance of the distribution system will be financed independently of gas and sewer services, he said, and will not affect the cost of those services. He estimates the initial cost for the system to be under $1 million dollars. Through the declaration, Mayor Hardwick expresses "the hope that this year's observance will promote fair housing practices in the City of Columbia." Symbolic reminders of Joe Moore are everywhere 2017-04-03 - City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) . The crest on City Hall is just one of the ubiquitous reminders of the late Joe Moore. The idea to put on the building came from former Mayor Pat Bell, who worked with Mary Allender of the Columbia/Adair County Chamber to adapt the stylized drawing of the Historic Adair County Courthouse for the symbol above. Mrs. Allender, turned to graphic artist Joyce Coomer of Printing Creations, who took the idea and created the logo above. Joyce Coomer says the Joe Moore design was modified, above, for screen printing, and says she doesn't know who created the finished sign, above. Joe Moore died Thursday, March 30, 2017. The Jim Blair Community Recreation Center (former Christian Life Center) in Columbia is looking better each day. As spring gets underway the half-mile walkway and lighting of the fields are updated and ready for use. The kids' play area is cleaned and plans are in the works to update and expand it. A Story Walk is being added. Pets are welcome and there is free WIFI. Parks and Recreation Board Chair Debbie Yates and Director Lisa Handy are leading the research and goal setting exercises so that it is a place of continuous improvement for families to enjoy.
