Tiny house living, in a way - mini-camper BR for two
2017-05-21 - Down by the river Schickel Park, Burkesville, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com photo(c). For all of those who have OD'ed on Tv's Tiny House show, awed by 400 sq. foot homes costing five times that of a Columbia mansion, sitting on rental lots leasing for more than a three bedroom home in South Central Kentucky - but still can't get the idea out of their system - one of these may be the answer. It's a mini-camper which sets up as a double bed which comfortably' accommodates two adults. And the cost? Quick online search finds them available at around $3,000 which even in this area would be amortized in 30 days when the benchmark is a night's stay in a hotel. Photo 19 May 2017, during the European Bike Rally. It sets up in two minutes and can be towed behind a motorcycle. - EW

Wildflowers of KY: Barbed wire fence makes fine trellis
2017-05-21 - KY 768, west of Fair Village of Fairplay, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com photo(c). Perhaps nothing brightens the roadsides more than luxuriantly blooming honeysuckle, whether found in small dabs in a natural spray, or above, in one of the 25 yard expanses along the roadway. In travels around South Central Kentucky more and more people are training - and controlling - the otherwise wild plant to be a welcome part of the landscape, much as so many have trained - and controlled - Eastern Red Cedars to behave so beautifully as windbreaks and natural fence rows. Honeysuckle provides nectar for the bees and butterflies, and a romantic aroma to summer evenings, too. - EW

Free Tipping Day 2 - Even the dogs came out
2017-05-20 - Mid-State Waste Transfer Station, 877 L. Willis Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Vicky Pike. Jake, Guy Babin's "somewhat inept yet handsome hound dog," as his owner describes him, was at Free Tipping Day 2, not so much to be of any help at all. He simply was looking for a little romance.
