Epicurean Kentuckian: Big Al tries world famous Laguna Burger
2017-06-07 - Casa Blanca, NM - Photo by Big Al Owens, the Big Rig Trucker, Food Critic. I stopped at exit 108 in Casa Blanca, New Mexico and had a world famous Laguna Burger. It is delicious and very affordable - at $8.95 for a combo Laguna Burger and choice of fries, sweet potato fries, or onion rings. The burger is one-half pound of 100%, never frozen ground beef, green chile, American Cheese, with lettuce/onion.tomato/pickle and mustard. It's served on a toasted sesame seed bun. It must be good: Truckers eat here and there's always a long line. - BIG AL OWENS, the Big Rig Trucker. If you really want one, it's only about 20.5 hours, around 1400 miles from the Historic Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

2017-06-07 - Downstream from Russell Creek Bridge, Adair Veterans Memorial Bypass - Photo by Brian Alexander. Just thought I would let everyone know that the recent rains have taken care of the strainer that had formed on Russell creek just below the Henson Bottoms. The tree is now turned onto the bank and the waterway is completely clear. Thanks, BRIAN ALEXANDER. Paired photo

The new view of Green River Commerce Park from Keltner Road
2017-06-07 - Green River Commerce Park, Development Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) . Across the pavement, across the verge and cornfield of Cass County proportions, across the Heartland Parkway, across the newly cleared woodland, is Green River Commerce Park, now changing almost daily, with a newly installed sewer system and lots of site changing, giving the land an Indiana kind of look of industry in the midst of big time farming. It will look even more so like a mini-version of plains states when the rise to the left of Development Drive is taken, pan load by pan load for a fill on the Rob Wilkerson properties, accommodating a street level few of the industrial park. Employment in the park, so far a single-handed effort by the Wilkerson Companies, now totals some 40 workers. - EW. Photo Wed 7 Jun 2017.

Mystery: 50-million-year-old LBN Parkway geology question
2017-06-07 - Metcalfe Co., KY - Photo by Pen. The photo was a taken just inside Metcalfe County on the Cumberland Parkway heading west from Adair County. Most of the cuts of exposed rock along the parkway show a generally consistent horizontal layering. In the cut in this photo, just above the school bus is a line where the layers are greatly compressed.
We're hoping that someone with more than 1 roommate hour* of college Geology will be able to confirm if this is a sign of some interesting geological event in the distant past.
*Roommate hour: Gained in college not by actually participating in a class oneself, but by having a roommate talk about their participation in a class. Pre-google, this was enough to bestow authority on a subject for an entire afternoon's holding forth in a bar or coffeeshop. - PEN
