Pretty day at Homeplace: These gravestones are from the first family who settled Homeplace on Green River in early 1800s. Isaac Tate (1777-1852) whose grave stone is on the far left in the back row, built the home that is still standing at Homeplace in 1804. It is presently being restored. To the right of Tate’s stone is that of one of his two wives, Haddassa (Esther) Finley Tate, who died in 1813. The other stones are various family members. The actual graves were located on the property adjacent to Homeplace which at the time of their deaths was part of the Tate family’s land. The stones were removed by the current land owner and given to Homeplace about 15 years ago. They are now located just behind the home that Isaac Tate built. As funds become available they will be encircled with a stone wall as a suitable memorial to early southcentral Kentucky settlers and founders of the present farm.
