Scenic Adair Co., KY: The beauty of graying wood 2017-08-22 - Oak Grove Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Wonderful scenes like this one dot the landscape of Adair County and South Central Kentucky, but every year, a few more are gone - some by residential development, some by industrial farming, some of natural causes. The dearly departed are all dearly missed. They are agri-tourism treasures, as are many family farms in the area. There are other modern farm structures which are equally compelling, but none more pleasing than those with natural aging, the silvery gray of weathered wood. Maybe not all agree. Ornamental Poke for shade and ink 2017-08-21 - E Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Some judgmental people would misinterpret this scene as sloth and sorriness. And maybe that's true, but the giant pokeweed is providing shade, ornamentation, and a great source of the raw material for making ink. The red topped store bought trellis is to support on end of a highly productive grape tomato plant away from varmints. So far, that one plant has provide dozens of tomatoes with the best taste of the summer.
