Along the Squarecrow walk, watch for details along the way
2017-10-06 - Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The flowers at this little garden in front of the Columbia Baptist Church draw the eye as you walk by; the scripture on the bench and the dedication bring memories of one of Columbia's brightest stars, and a very favorite author, Julia Ann Pickett Thompson. The scripture is Isaiah 40:8 - The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of God Stands forever. It's been almost four years since Julia Ann Pickett Thompson passed away, on January 25, 2014. It's good to pause and remember her. And, for those of us, Jim, Linda, and I, who read and re-read, again and again, her delightful autobiographical account of growing up in Downtown Columbia, here's a link to a story we treasure along with The Adventures of Huck Finn, A Confederacy of Dunces, and How I Discovered Columbia when Columbus didn't, here's the link: Raising Julia Ann Pickett was a full-time, full-town chore - EW

Fountain, Swan & Unknown, so far, Squarecrow
2017-10-06 - Fountain Plaza, 1st Quadrant, Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Details on the Squarecrow will be added later, but couldn't help but like the image of the swan seeming so-in-its-element under the fountain and the geraniums matching the Squarecrows red pocket square and leg bands. With the Squarecrow being on a walker, we presume this will be a healthcare entry. This photo was taken on Fri 6 Oct 2017. - EW
