The accompanying image appeared top center of page one in the Adair County News eighty years ago. An opinion piece on another page of that paper stated, in part, "Nineteen years ago, on November 11, 1918, the whole world was filled with rejoicing. The war was over. An Armistic had been agreed upon between the Allies and Associated Armies and those of the Central European powers. Four years of bloody warfare, the most tragic and deadly in the world's history, had come to an end."
