Scenic Adair County, KY: Roadside moss garden, Dunnville Road

2018-01-02 - Between Short Creek Bridge & Eunice, Dunnville Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
The best way to see this sight would be 1) Walking, or 2) On a bicycle. We spotted this moss garden from a moving car, decided it was a worth a turn around, and came back to take pictures. In all probability, the garden is totally natural. Couldn't help but notice that it is not only eyecatching, but has utility. Left alone it solves problems for highway maintenance, too. The more moss, the less need for herbicides, the less need for roadside brutal cutting. We wondered if, in the long term, a little encouragement from volunteers - even from the state - might yield more benefits than methods now used. What if this area, so naturally pleasing and so kind to mosses and lichens, were made into a roadside moss garden the full length? We'd drive 150 miles to see one in Kentucky. Bet others would, too. - EW/LW
