If one counts the bare limbs for late fall, there are the almost full springtime flowers, summer green Magnolia foliage, and mistletoe of winter, on one of Columbia's prettiest streets, which, around the block, intersects with Frazier, an important Daffodil Watch location at this time. - EW

Mystery tree growths in need of identification

Calling on tree specialists among columbiamagazine.com readers -- please help identify the growths on this limb hanging over Town Creek in Columbia. From the spring green fan shapes that stick out from the wood (which first caught my eye) to the coral buds that look like flower petals opening on the upper side, to the rose colored growth on the underside that, on very close inspection, appears as tiny stalactite formations hanging from a cave ceiling. Do all three make up one fungus in different stages or are they different families? A quick search found this list of tree fungi but none seem to match. Enlightenment will be very much appreciated. - LW
