Hairy, tap tap tapping in the Tuesday morning sunshine 2018-03-06 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. A few times over the past couple of days it has sounded like someone's at the door, tapping gently, ignoring the doorbell. That happens. When I've checked, however, no one has been there and the tapping stopped. This morning the sound came and it was very close to where I was communing with the cats at their breakfast time. I looked up and there was the woodpecker at work, tap tap tapping on an old maple tree limb in the morning sunshine. It is either a Downy Woodpecker or a Hairy Woodpecker, it fits both descriptions. Lawler talked about the struggles he had growing up and how those struggles continued into his adult life, but he never gave up and he never stopped trying. The students really related to Lawler's story and had many questions about their own struggles. Columbia Police Officer Kevin Atwood, right, has been the SRO (School Resource Officer) for the past seven years. He is relieved to have his request for expansion over the past few years, at last granted, and he welcomes Officer Charles Greer as the second SRO to be on campus a majority of his time. Officer Atwood said Adair County has good students, good schools and plenty of good equipment, including state of the art surveillance cameras in strategic places all over campus. Supt.
