Epicurian Kentuckian: Huevos rancheros breakfast
2018-03-18 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com. This is among our most interesting breakfast meals lately, sort of on the order of Huevos rancheros. A scrambled egg served with spicy chili, avocado, a few olives and canned tomatoes while we eagerly await the farmers market fresh ones. FM2 is set to begin Saturday, April 7, 2018 on the corner of Campbellsville and Merchant Streets, Columbia, KY. - LW

Traffic blocked in both directions due to fire near Vester
2018-03-18 - 3300 hundred block Liberty Road - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Traffic was blocked in both directions on Liberty Road/KY 206 between Beulah Chapel Church and Vester as firefighters from the Adair County Fire Department battled a fire, which destroyed the distinctive red barn, whose color and tower had been a marking spot on the road for the past few years. The adjacent home sustained damage. Other first responders included the Adair County Sheriff's office and the Adair County SAR, and constable Jason Rector. More information will be posted when received from official sources. Photo at 3:01pmCT, Sun 18 Mar 2018. - EW

A timid, cute face appears on warm 17 Mar 2018 day
2018-03-18 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. This little fellow was the first one of his ilk who appeared along the free stone masonry retaining wall in the back yard this year. This year there's not so many as some years. It could be that Blue the Cat and Momma Cat have kept them away. There are many videos on the internet of cat vs. garter snakes. When poked with a bear-hunting stick, it retreated into the wall. This one was likely a male, as they come out of brumation before the females, according to Wikipedia_Garter Snakes which also notes that the reptiles give live births to litters of up to 98 at a time - which could be a key factor for anybody going into the garter snake pet industry or want more of them to get rid of snails, slugs, and lots of other things considered pests. Probably not good to let the grandkids play with a wild one, as they are now known to be venomous, according to the article. - EW.
