Yesterday, Monday, March 19, 2018, in the wake of an education by Granddaughters Hailey & Tilley, there was a new family speak in our family: Flowering trees are "flower trees," for one, and that was the quest for Monday pictures. And here's a great one, a redbud flower tree in Russell County, very early for this part of the country, we thought - usually - the counties with a jump on spring are associated with the prevailing winds - Metcalfe, Barren, Warren, and particularly Todd and Christian; we expect them to be ahead. But here it was, a redbud tree in it's teaser stage, exhilarating with anticipation more than fulfillment. The old fashioned double Daffodils are just now coming into full, explosive bloom, bringing in this first day of spring 2018. They have many more than double the petals of regular ones, but since my grandmother called them doubles when they grew wild in her yard, I call them that until I learn something more official. This house may not be inhabited but the Daffodils aren't giving up on attracting a family back to this spot. There may be just enough Daffodils there to suit my taste.
