Commercial anglers netted nearly 42 tons of invasive Asian carp from Kentucky and Barkley lakes during the inaugural Carp Madness tournament in 2013. Carp Madness returns to the lakes in June with a new twist: it's a tournament for bow anglers. The top prize is $10,000 for the team on the winning boat in each division, with total prizes of $23,000. The tournament begins at 7pmCT, June 23, and continues until 7amCT, June 24, 2018. Rowena Road, Jamestown, KY a wildflower & moss paradise 2018-04-07 - Between entrance to Apple Valley and Lure Lodge, Jamestown, Russell County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener . These wildflowers were in bloom on a ledge high over Rowena Road in Russell County, KY. Positive ID would be welcome. The plant fits a lot of the description of blood root, but we won't go with that without hearing from authorities. Along the short distance to the boat ramp there's Redbud already in bloom, some of the most interesting moss on the cliff sides, patches of wild irises on the roadside, and gorgeous peeps straight down and through the trees of Lake Cumberland. Friday, April 6, 2018, at Halcomb Landing Boat Ramp was like a cold snap on a spring vacation on the coast. It was cold - seemed like 30 degrees F. colder than on the leeward side of the hills, that is compared to shirtsleeve weather of Ky 558, Rowena Road, visited later. But the elaborate boat ramp is as much a park as it is a place to launch lake craft, a day trip destination especially for hometowners in Jamestown and Adair, Clinton, and Cumberland Counties, well worth packing a picnic and sitting a spell at the comfortable benches and picnic just down the walk from this spot.
