Ken Hill completes Living History series at ACES
2018-04-25 - Adair County Elementary School (ACES), 870 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Innocent Bystander. Ken Hill, noted re-enactor, finished the last of his 4th grade "living history classes" Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Adair County Elementary School. "A great bunch of kids," he writes, and adds this information about the event."The flag, along with all items on the two tables are exact replicas of items used around the time of the American Revolution. I bring an assortment of weapons, writing instruments, books, lanterns, hides, furs, cooking utensils and children’s toys, all to demonstrate how our ancestors lived. The "Betsy" flag I'm holding was rarely flown in this area, but since the children have learned about it in school, it helps to focus them on the time period when Kentucky was still a county in Virginia. The kids really seem to enjoy it, and once they hear the stories about the items, many of them can tell the same stories to the group if they happen to see me again. I appreciate the teachers' invitations to come into the schools, and the support of Supt. Stephens in allowing me to bring my gear to help tell the stories. Reading about history is good, seeing what you have read about often makes it much clearer."
