Fred a factor in miniature Lake Cumberland tsunami
2018-05-12 - Halcomb Landing Boat Ramp, by Wolf Creek Dam, Russell County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Fred, a black lab from Albany, KY, can be seen creating a small tsunami in Lake Cumberland while engaged in a tireless, seemingly endless game of throw-and-retrieve from the peninsula walk at Halcomb's Landing by Wolf Creek Dam. His master, Shianne Allen, threw the limb he captured dozens, perhaps hundreds of times, and Fred never seemed to tire of diving and retrieving. - EW. Photo Fri 10 May 2018.

CAUD sewer connection for Dollar General Store gets go ahead
2018-05-12 - Intersection of Jamestown Road, Industrial Drive and Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass - Photo by Ed Waggener. Lenny Stone, General Manager of Columbia/Adair Utilities District, reported to the CAUD board of commissioners meeting Thursday, May 10, 2018, that all the paperwork with the KY Transportation Cabinet has been completed and signed allowing construction of a sewer connection for the construction of a new Dollar General Store on the lot behind the vehicle in this photo. The KYTC is requiring a directional bore, connecting at a manhole barely visible left in the photo from the car. The property owners, Joe Pyles & Anthony Janes, will pay for the connection, Mr. Stone said. The lot is on the one time farm which was the picturesque home of a warmly remembered and beloved teacher, Miss Beulah Bennett. - EW

For more, including an easy method of propagation in home gardens, and the valuable contributions of this plant, see: Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - Silene Virginica - EW. Photo Fri 11 May 2018. Should a reader recognize the tobacco like plant, the ID would be appreciated.

Lost dog found in parking lot of Dollhouse Nursery
2018-05-11 - Burkesville Street, Columbia, Adair County, KY - Photo by Anna Murrell. My name is Anna Murrell, and I have found a male dog on Burkesville Street in Columbia in the parking lot of Dollhouse Daycare. He is wearing a black collar with silver studs around it, and he seems to definitely be a house dog. I did not want him to get hit, and he doesn't seem to belong to anyone around Burkesville Street. Hoping to find the owner - Anna Murrell anna.murrell@lindsey.edu
